The Height of Land overlook, south of Oquossoc on route 17, is under construction this summer. They're rebuilding about a mile of road and the scenic turnout. Most of the road between Roxbury and Rangeley Plantation is pretty rough also.

Update: 24 miles of new hot top from Mexico to Rangeley Plantation with some ongoing construction in the vicinity of the Height of Land parking area. This should now make for a good foliage run.

Permalink Reply by Jeff on September 22, 2011 at 4:20pm Took a run up there Sunday.....best surface that I have ever seen on that road. The new overlook is nice, still under construction. Enjoy it now...they didn't rebuild the road bed as far as I can tell, so it will be back to crap in the spring. For now, it is a great run!
YES!, It was a great ride Macman. Sooo many times of riding on a goat path and now a Suoer Highwya, if only for a short time.
Lunch was very nice as well.
Made possible by the Great People of MBN posting Road Conditions.

We took a ride that way. It was a big improvment. My profile pic was taken at the over veiw there. Even thow it wasnt finished. Bikes could fit between the cones. Just up the road from me so i can see many rides next summer up that way.

Permalink Reply by Jeff on June 28, 2012 at 4:33pm I thought I'd update this thread. It looks like some paving is going to happen in the Rangeley region. Dallas Hill Road, Route 16 toward Errol, and Route 17 from Oquossoc south all have newly installed "road construction next _ miles" signs... Ride safe...
