The Height of Land overlook, south of Oquossoc on route 17, is under construction this summer. They're rebuilding about a mile of road and the scenic turnout. Most of the road between Roxbury and Rangeley Plantation is pretty rough also.

Update: 24 miles of new hot top from Mexico to Rangeley Plantation with some ongoing construction in the vicinity of the Height of Land parking area. This should now make for a good foliage run.

All right! About time too, it's needed it for awhile. Thanks for the heads up. I'm looking forward to trying it.

Took a run up there Sunday.....best surface that I have ever seen on that road. The new overlook is nice, still under construction. Enjoy it now...they didn't rebuild the road bed as far as I can tell, so it will be back to crap in the spring. For now, it is a great run!
I went up Rte. 17 to Rangley Monday. As Macman said it's new hot top up 17 to the Rangley Lake look out. Some rough areas from there to Oqussoc (not too bad). We came back via Rte. 4 which also has been resurfaced in the bad areas. It made for a nice ride. The Height of the Land look out should be completed in time for the fall foliage. I couldn't believe how much color there is now. Ride Safe.
Only about 1 mile was rebuilt, at the Height of Land overlook only. The rest of the road was just a resurface and will definately be back to what it was very shortly. When you ride up by there you go right by our camp. Ride safe!

YES!, It was a great ride Macman. Sooo many times of riding on a goat path and now a Suoer Highwya, if only for a short time.

Lunch was very nice as well.

Made possible by the Great People of MBN posting Road Conditions.

Cheers

Anybody know how close to peak the color will likely be this weekend?  Hoping to play hooky on Friday and head over that way!

Wendy

Not sure Wendy but I think it is still a bit early for peak color.

Thank you, gentlemen.  Looks like another week or so for peak color. Guess we will have to play hooky next week!

We took a ride that way. It was a big improvment. My profile pic was taken at the over veiw there. Even thow it wasnt finished. Bikes could fit between the cones. Just up the road from me so i can see many rides next summer up that way.

Well, whatever becomes of the road...that view defines western Maine for me.
